2004/53 To receive Community Policeman's Report

PC Booth reported that the recent Neighbourhood Watch meeting had a very disappointing turnout. Regarding burglaries, Market Overton had one and one theft from the industrial estate. There had also been the nuisance of motor bikes using tracks across open countryside. It was noted, that if there were any problems, call 999 or Control Room on 0116-2222222 to be put through to Voice Mail 4300.

(P.C. Lyndsey Booth left meeting)

2004/54 To receive Neighbourhood Watch Report

Judith Taylor reiterated her disappointment at the turnout at the recent meeting. It was hoped to re-establish the 'contacts' for each street that had been part of the original scheme. She mentioned that she had brought with her Information Packs and the Neighbourhood newsletter was available from the Post Office.

2004/55 To receive Chairman's Report.

The Chairman updated his Report that had recently been circulated to all residents of the village:

Bowling Green Lane - Gary Toogood - Highways Traffic Technician had examined the proposal to make Bowling Green Lane a one way street. A study had been completed, which has confirmed that a one way street is feasible. At the narrowest point Bowling Green Lane is only 3.5m wide. The next stage is to gauge if it really is desirable and how residents feel about this proposal. A letter will be sent with appropriate plans and a reply paid envelope to all Market Overton residents.

The Lodge Footway - The Chairman reported that The Lodge footway incurred no cost to the village and The Lodge Trust had made a generous donation towards the cost of additional street lighting.

2004/56 To Adopt the Accounts for the year ending 31st March 2003

The Receipts & Payments Accounts for the year ending 31st March 2003 were circulated to all present. The Chairman enquired if there were any questions; Liz Irvine proposed, Steve Gluning seconded and all agreed to the adoption and approval of the accounts.

2004/57 To receive Feast Weekend Update

Jo Gluning informed the meeting that most of the programme had been circulated in the Outreach magazine. Village gardens would be a feature this year and this time would not coincide with the National Gardens Scheme. Other activities would be Albert Ratcliffe playing the organ in the Village Hall, singers in Church, BBQ at Market Overton Cricket Club, Kate Don archaeological exhibition, and the Raffle - Balloon flight as prize.

2004/58 To receive Parish Plan update

Andy Stewart informed the meeting that the Parish Plan was a Government initiative; it is a vision of what is important and what should be safeguarded for the village. He reported that a questionnaire would soon be circulated to everyone (also via the internet) so that views will be put in the plan; there will even be a section for children to complete.

2004/59 Cottesmore Harrier Operations

Sqn. Ldr. Ian Townsend gave a power-point presentation about the history of R.A.F. Cottesmore from early flying days in 1938 to the present day. Over the sixty-six year period, the landing airstrip, aircraft, personnel had changed quite considerably. In his presentation, the meeting was able to witness some of the daring night flights over Iraq and how targets were singled out; in all, it was a well thought out and informative presentation. He then answered questions from the floor, mainly about flight paths!

2004/60 Any Other Business

There being no other business, the meeting closed at 9.35 p.m.
